Codiad is an awesome web based IDE for the cloud!

April 3rd 2014

It's not that often I get excited by IDEs, and even less often by web IDEs. After all, most of them either don't work, lack in the most basic of features, or cost way too much money.

As my IDE preference goes, I almost exclusively use Zend Studio. But today I found Codiad. It's on GitHub

First a bit of feature spoiler!

Codiad isn't for everyone. But what it lacks, it makes up for in the open approach to development.

Upon first launch you're asked some really basic information to get it up and running:

Once you're in, the look is clean, and straight forward:

Editing is an absolute dream:

And as for the marketplace, there are loads of plugin options for Codiad, and if there's not one that fits your need, the folks who developed it have even put together a demo repository on GitHub so you can make your own plugin! Check it out here.

So, who'll use it? Well, I'm not saying it's for daily coding, but for getting your head into the IDE world, it's fantastic. It's got some real potential and I can't wait to help out with making some plugins.

Let me know what you think.
